Opening Ceremony was Held for Overseas Students in the 2015 Spring Semester
Twenty one exchange students from 11 countries, such as the US, Germany, Belgium, South Korea, and Israel will study at JUFE this spring semester. Students arrived at school under the guidance of Chinese student volunteers on March 6th and 7th. The opening ceremony was held on the morning of March 9th. Prof. Wang Xiaoping, vise president of JUFE and Prof. Xiaolong, the director of OICE attended.
“有朋自远方来,不亦说乎?”"Isn’t it a joy to have friends come from afar?” Wang extended his heartfelt welcome to all overseas students with these famous ancient words. Though students are allowed to choose courses taught in English or Chinese, he said that, this semester provides a good opportunity for all to learn Chinese and Chinese culture. Besides, studying abroad is not only to gain knowledge, but also to improve one’s abilities. Therefore, he hoped that all students could get used to their new environment quickly.
Prof. Xiao gave students her contact number and urged them to use it if she can any problems for them. She hoped that students could enjoy every moment at JUFE.
To offer better services and management for foreign students, OICE has established a foreign service station jointly with Nanchang Municipal Public Security Bureau (PSB). Tu Huaiwen, a representative from PSB attended the ceremony. Mr. Tu highlighted the importance of the related laws and the dormitory regulations. She also said, students should ask OICE or PSB for help if they have any trouble.
The ceremony brought the students closer together . They shared their plans with each other for this semester. Von Austin from the US speaks Chinese fluently, so practicing Chinese handwriting is his next goal. Dmitrij from Belgium told others of his great experience in Beijing and Shanghai. He wants to learn how to cook Chinese food. Three Czech girls invited others to join them for their upcoming travel to Chengdu.
After the ceremony, overseas students looked around campus, guided by volunteers.
Students will do a medical test and apply for campus cards on March 10th. Courses will begin from March 11th.
